On a quite cold & sunny/cloudy sunday morning, Kristina and I crossed town, took a S-Bahn, a tram and we walked to Das Mies van der Rohe Haus, the Landhaus Lemke, that he built in 1932. The only private house that is open to the public, next to a lake, in such a quiet part of town.

A saturday evening at the Michelberger with Sandra Juto and Kristina for one of those fun moments that blogging can create. I remember that Sandra was one of the first blogs I discovered years ago, I do continue to read her daily & to encourage her work. And it was such a pleasure to meet her !
Well, the other thing that blogging can create is slightly getting on my nerves. I discovered yesterday one of my pictures turned into a promotional card. Berlin was wonderful. As it is always the case.

This town is my secret garden, the place that calms me down, where I go when I have to think about myself, about my life, about the path that I have to follow. But this time was different, because I know where I am, what I want in my life & what I don't want anymore. So these days were all about spending wonderful time with friends, old and new, enjoying walks in the cold et se perdre un peu, sinon c'est pas drôle, smelling the coal in the air and discovering new places. More Berliner pictures to come soon.
PS : Some design changes are on their way here. This place needed a little lifting...

I love to look for reflections in the puddles. I love the smell in the air after the rain. I even make playlists for the rain. Well, obviously, even if I am a girl from the South, I love the rain.

I am off for eight days in the South tonight, for a Christmas family gathering & friends to catch up with. Weirdly, I hardly did pictures those last ten days. I am in the middle of something, bored with what I do, trying a new camera that I am not yet so familiar with, a black and white roll in Georgette and I can't finish it, bref, ça vient pas... Luckily, I booked flight tickets for the city that make my eyes go CRAZY for the middle of January. Until then, no pressure, we'll see what we'll shoot or not.

The Yayoi Kusama retrospective at Beaubourg runs until January 9 th, GO if you have the time. She is obsessed with dots, lives in a mental hospital since 1977, worked on performances and installations like noone, elle est complètement folle et c'est ça qui est bon. The last picture is inside of one of her mirror rooms, it is just a magical thing to experience. I have to admit that since last year, one was exhibited in Marseille, I was dying to see another one.

Voilà, j'ai un nouveau bébé. I mean a new old baby, I bought a canonet almost two years ago, I put it on my fireplace and never dared to shoot with it. Because it is a rangefinder, because it works differently, because you can mess up a roll so easily, because it is so different and therefore challenging. But I wanted to give it a try, so I put a black & white roll in it and shooted without thinking. I was expecting nothing from this roll. And Gosh, I love this single shot. La Victoire de Samothrace, Le Louvre on a cloudy day.

Don't laugh at her name, Mauricette was in the mind for like 5 seconds... Mais c'était un peu too much...

The garden in my parent's house is such a beautiful and peaceful space, une sorte de jardin botanique like my mum likes to call it. My dad designed it twenty five years ago, it evolved with the years, des gardénias, du jasmin... And they even have so many oliv trees that they usually offer the garden's oliv oil to everyone for Christmas... C'est ça d'avoir la main verte.

I have a kind of complex relationship with my Rolleicord, it's a gift, one of those you wished you never had because of all the bad souvenirs it carries with it, it's very old, heavy, not easy to handle bref... but in the same time it is such a beautiful object. I have been told to try to use it more & more, so that's what I did a few weeks ago on a glorious sunday...

A lunch, a drink, a walk, a moment with Isa is like a true gift. We have been running after each other for a month, she was really busy with work and NYC and we couldn't make it. Finally last week, in a small courtyard, it was the time for some blah blah like we are used to do. And it felt so good to see her and hear her laugh.

She is filled with courage & love and I admire her so much. She knows it, but it is so better to say those things on repeat.

It all started with un apéro, some wine & very good food Au petit fer à cheval. Between the foie gras and the main course we had a bunch of great ideas & two days later it was a meet up and much fun ahead. Voilà !!! This is a collaboration between RTS and yours truly. ( & my shoes )

Ryan, mostly known as RTS, is part of the MORE & CO creative studio from Portland, Maine. Working with MAV & CDR, that is to say, a good bunch of good people ( with such good names ) working on such cool projects.

We met in June, thanks to Brian Ferry, we clicked instantly and we said that we'll see each other again next time he will be here. This is the Parisian version of this so funny thing I love.

The idea raised between some glasses of wine, while talking about shoes, feet & dancing. It was so fun to do, the people passing next to us were thinking "Gosh, what the hell is she doing ?". The funniest part ? Ryan was dancing behind the camera too. So sad you can't see it, he has pretty good moves !
Some behind the scenes shots are coming, Georgette is not as fast as Ryan's camera.

Those words above echoed so much in my mind when, Alexandra & myself, we went to the opening of la FIAC on wednesday evening. Lucky us, yes, minus the hour & a half queue outside of the Grand Palais. I'm not the right one to judge but I do have the impression that the common sense & the beauty of art were not that much present on that night. Of course, you have the pleasure to see a piece of Calder, a Gunther Fürg, un sublime Nicolas de Staël... But what is contemporary art today ? I am afraid I don't have the answer...

I had the extreme pleasure & luck ( Hé, tu peux être là dans 20 minutes ?... ) to attend La Soirée de Poche #23 with Feist last tuesday evening.
In such a fabulous place kept secret until the last minute, well hidden in a small street of Paris, a very intimate performance with not much than 50 happy few guests. She played Metals and old sweet things and it was... Gosh it was... So unique.
You'll see the show hopefully very soon on La Blogothèque, be sure to watch it, it will ravish your heart en plus de ravir vos oreilles...

La Maison La Roche

La Maison La Roche was built in the 1920's for Mr La Roche a Swiss banker but mostly an art collector. House built by Le Corbusier of course. I heard a lot about it but I never saw the 1920's typical Le Corbusier's architecture. And to do so you have to be in Paris. How convenient ! I thought I was going to be amazed by the shapes & lines but I was by the colours. Because outside it was, of course, grey and inside it was all about Bleu outremer, Terre de Sienne, Vert Paris... Colours made by Le Corbusier to enhance the paintings.

Welcome.

That's the little word that my parisian friends texted, shouted and whispered to me when I arrived. That's what I heard when I opened the door of my new flat.

Nothing happened as planned, Paris was in the mind for months and everything changed in a crazy way in the last days. Not the flat planned, not the surroundings planned but after all, it is brilliant, better than I could ever imagine.

I am happy to be back here and I hope I'll be able to share much of the good stuff that Paris is bringing me. Because, YES, life is good.

Moving away is like a complete catharsis. Something you have to do on your own, like a big conversation with yourself. You end up something somewhere and you start something new somewhere else. You face your choices, your fears, your expectations.
It was very sweet lately to have phone calls, texts and mails from my friends who wanted to see me before going away. It was very sweet to see them, to share laughs, to share thoughts, to share a kind of fear and exaltation of the unknown. To see those big smiles, to hear those "I'm happy for you, it'll be great, you deserve it".
Prenez soin de vous, je reviens dans quelques temps...

I have some great news, many of you already know this, but I haven't talked about it here yet.

I am moving to Paris !

The beginning of the year has been very hard to handle for me. Emotionally it was a rollercoaster. Much sadness, pain and disappointments. Life is though, hard and you have to do with it. It made me think about so much things, I questionned everything, my studies, my work, my personal choices and the directions I had to take. It wasn't easy to deal with all that but I am happy now, because it is the very good time for something new.

I'm excited to move to Paris for a fantastic project I have always been dreaming of.

I'll put this blog on a break up to a point. But hopefully not for too long.

I am VERY VERY VERY happy to finally share the news with you.

Les Rencontres Photographiques d'Arles 2011.
The more I go, the more I am disappointed by what is showed ( Martin Parr, 3 years in a row ?! WTF ??? ) but the scenography is always very fun to play with, especially at les ateliers. But to resume : a very sunny & hot day, a train journey that I'll miss a lot, english and german friends to laugh with. I did loads of pictures, more next week.

While going out of Le Temps Retrouvé in Avignon, I saw those words from Douglas Gordon on the wall. I love the guy. His look, his videos, his contradictions, the way he can shock and create beauty at the same time.

My grandma used to tell me those words. "You can't hide your love forever". She used to say that it's good to do it, parce ma petite il faut que ça sorte... I saw those words on the wall, I passed by & I smiled.

I started to shoot my very first "commande" as a "photographer" yesterday. ( !!!! )
A project about lines, shapes, interiors, exteriors. L'Architecture quoi. I feel lucky and honoured to work with two guys I admire the work of.
I did some repérages with Georgette a few weeks ago, the picture above is my favourite of the little series
I did. But, as it is a serious project, I am shooting with Jacques, un joujou extra.

7 things I've been enjoying lately :
1. September is my favourite month of the year, so happy to already be in it.
2. Looking forward wearing jackets and socks again (I even plan on getting a new coat for winter), can seem silly to all of you, but we had some 40° this summer and it was very hard to handle the heat...
3. When autumn is not really far, I listen to this on repeat.
4. This fish market session in Sicily by Mary. Those pictures have a 1950's spirit, don't you think ?
5. Bref. The new french tv show everyone talks about, love how it is so sharp & true.
6. Those marvellous pictures by Robert Rauschenberg and his Rolleiflex.

We laughed a lot, talked about how you handle your camera says a lot about you, remembered how freezing it was the first time we met in cold Berlin, the kitchen talks last summer & how hot it was this time. It was so good to see her here.

I am very fond of Zaha Hadid's work, not only because my dear Marion worked on a great book about her, but because I love her shapes, lines & idea of aesthetism. It was a good reason to go for a walk along the Seine back in Paris in June and to end at the Institut du Monde Arabe, go on the rooftop (et avoir le vertige), snap and go inside the Mobile Art, sit & enjoy.

My sweet Claire (Clairon ou Moustachita pour les intimes) was back home for some holidays. So we did what we do everytime we see each other, we talked, we were wearing the same shoes, we had some rosé (sans pédalo, il est resté à Ouchy !) & we laughed. A year without seeing each other was so long but Australia is not quite around the corner. So we had a lot to catch up because so much happened...

I remember the first time I went to La Cité Radieuse.

It was in winter, on a cloudy day, I was freezing my ass off on the rooftop because of the cold wind but I couldn't leave. I guess I felt in love instantly. Because of the atmosphere, of the view, of the peculiar feeling you have when you are up there. My kind of secret paradise.

I brought a lot of my friends up there. Many of them were intrigued by this place, wondering why I was going again & again. So I bring them, say nothing while in the elevator, start with the rooftop and as soon as they put a feet there, they look back at me and they all do the same thing.
They smile.

Seeing le Temps retrouvé (qui fait référence à la figure Proustienne d'un retour au calme et à la contemplation), the photography show curated by Cy Twombly showned at la Collection Lambert in Avignon, was like a big slap in my face. A slap of beauty, simplicity, efficiency. I do have the feeling that until that, I had no idea what photography was about.

If you really really want to see one of the best photography selection of the moment (Diane Arbus, Saly Mann, Hiroshi Sugimoto (!!!)...), RUN. The last 5 rooms dedicated to Twombly's photographs are just insanely beautiful ou terriblement exaltantes, ça dépend du point de vue.

I have the impression to know a beautiful secret, it was such a sweet attention to put this beautiful story in my hands and to let me discover it before everyone. Richard à la BNF

I went to la BNF for the Richard Prince exhibition that was absolutely fantastic. I wanted to snap a picture of the exhibition but it was definitely not possible and the security guard did me his "no no no don't you dare to try look".
But the light and the shades inside and outside of the building were fun to play with.

There are places where you feel instantely at home.
Books everywhere, cameras everywhere, the little courtyard in the back, those little birds singing to wake you up in the morning, la passoire dans la cuisine ! Gosh it was so perfect. Mille mercis C & F !
PS : Je suis une midinette, j'assume totalement, mais je le revois ce soir, dans un endroit de toute beauté. Le bonheur en somme.
